How to check the status of your Stimulus Check?

With the financial impact of COVID-19 hitting so many Americans hard, getting that extra cash in 2021 was a major relief.

That’s why Stimulus Checks were created to help needy families meet their basic needs during the pandemic.

It was issued automatically to families who had recently filed tax returns or were enrolled in federal programs.

But here we are in 2023, and some people still have not received their expected payments from the U.S. government.

If this is you, don’t worry! We have solutions to help you get what is owed to you! Some states are still making the payments, including California, Colorado, and Idaho.

Checking your status

Checking your Stimulus Check status is simple! One way was through the Get My Payment service. This website was offered by IRS and is free, but it is no longer working.

Now, considering you have filed a tax return for 2019 or 2020, you must log on to your IRS account to check the payments issued to you.

As said, the Stimulus Check was financial support granted by the federal government to help needy families during the pandemic.

The third release of the benefit was focused on bringing the money back to taxpayers as a refund. People who filed a tax return for the 2019 and 2020 tax years could receive.

In short, the third federal Stimulus Check was an advance payment of the 2021 tax refunds. So for many people, there is still money to receive.

Today, the main way you can grant your benefit if you’re eligible is by claiming a 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. This tool is provided on the IRS website.

Still, remember that most parts of the eligible citizens have already been contemplated. But in some cases, it is possible to receive yet, as we show next.

What if I didn’t receive it?

Some qualified taxpayers may have had some error in their calculation, making them not receive all the amounts or nothing at all.

That could happen if you had a drop in your income between 2020 and 2021, making you qualified to receive more.

The same could have happened to people who had added more eligible dependents. In this case, you can claim your refund once it is based on total income and the number of dependents.

Furthermore, some families may have had newborns in 2021, which justifies a change in your tax return and enhancement in the stimulus check.

Are states providing stimulus checks?

Let’s keep a reminder on stimulus checks provided by states! Some of the U.S. states had made their payments with their qualifying requirements.

Colorado, Idaho, and South Carolina have schedules of payments for the current year of 2023.

If you’re resident in some of the listed states, don’t lose more time! Contact the Department of Revenue or access its website to know if you qualify and how to apply for!

In the next topics, we bring to you a resume of the main requirements for applicants in those states:

The state of Colorado scheduled tax refunds for its taxpayers, which can expect their payments by January 31, 2023.

The state government had enhanced the values above expected, granting $750 for individuals and $1500 for joint filers.

Requirements for taxpayers include a Colorado residency for all of 2021, 18 years or more as of December 31, 2021, and must have filed a state income tax return in the same year.

The state approved a tax rebate for citizens who filed a tax return in 2020. The values mean $300 for individuals and $600 for joint filers.

Since it is for citizens only, the main requirement is a full-time residency for the entire year of 2020. Also, to qualify, you need to have filed a tax return or filed the grocery-credit refund returns.

The schedule of payments will still go until early 2023. If you were an Idaho citizen and taxpayer in 2020, check your rebate status through the Idaho State Tax Commission website.

South Carolina

The South Carolina Department of Revenue is providing a rebate for eligible taxpayers. The first amounts were released for those who filed a 2021 individual tax return by October 17, 2022.

The next payments will occur in March 2023 for returns filed by February 15, 2023. To estimate your rebate, check the South Carolina Department of Revenue website.

The montants are issued as direct deposits or mailed paper checks, with a maximum value of $800. If you’re a resident of South Carolina, don’t let this opportunity pass!

Bottom Line

After everything we’ve covered in this post, you must be wondering how to get a tax break if you don’t qualify for any Stimulus Checks. But still, we got your back!

The federal government offers alternatives for those taxpayers with some eligible criteria. For example, through the Earned Income Tax program.
