Additionally, they must be unemployed or underemployed and have low or very low income. Regarding the family’s requirements, to qualify, you must have a child of 18 years or younger, be pregnant, or be a head of household at 18 or younger.

States can set their time policies regarding Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. However, they can’t provide this assistance for longer than 60 months to families with an adult recipient. Nevertheless, they can exceed this limit for up to 20% of families based on hardship.
